Slow Fashion x ThredUp
*This post is sponsored by Stage stores & ThredUp. All opinions are my own.
Disclaimer: I’ve never been one to follow fashion trends, and I’m honestly not sure my friends would ever use the word “fashionable” to describe me. I’m very blessed to wear yoga clothes for my job, and would be happy as a clam to simply rock a swimsuit or my boho-surfer-beach threads every day of the week (barefoot is my preferred footwear of choice).
With all that being said, I was recently introduced to a fashion trend that I am 100% behind and have started to urge all of my friends to follow. It’s more than a trend, it’s a movement. It’s called Slow Fashion. Heard of it?
I hadn’t either, until I teamed up with Stage stores & ThredUp to spread word about their collaboration. ThredUp is the world's largest online thrift store, where you can buy and sell high-quality secondhand clothes, and I am all about their aim to make secondhand and thrifting both accessible and FUN!
Slow Fashion is both an awareness and an approach to fashion. It considers the process and resources required to create all clothing items, with a major focus on sustainability. Slow Fashion means buying higher-quality garments that will last longer, and values the fair treatment of people, animals and the planet. Sounds rad, right?! Slow Fashion encourages consumers to thoroughly research the brands they’re buying from, and to consider how much and how often we’re consuming. This movement encourages the idea of buying second-hand, and recycling or reusing instead of throwing away.
Supporting Slow Fashion is about more than positively impacting the environment. It’s about making a choice to support the people behind the clothes, to choose quality over quantity, to choose longevity over trends.
Rather than supporting an old narrative and the pressure to keep up with the never ending, ever changing trends, I decided to slow down and change my habits. Slow fashion is about more than clothes. It’s about the story behind your clothes.
All of these factors are why I was so excited to partner with ThredUp, a new online consignment store that is making it easier for us to clean out our closets, and shop quality garments all second-hand! They’ve also teamed up with Stage Stores across the country to bring you designer fashions (Free People, J. Crew, etc.) for up to 90% off the retail price at in-store pop-ups where you can actually try on and buy these amazing consignment pieces!
I visited a Bealls store recently in Austin, TX and got the cutest dress for under $20, from a favorite designer of mine!

Want to do your part to help the planet and participate in the Slow Fashion Movement? Below are some of my tips to embrace this sustainable trend:
If buying new, make sure the brand you’re buying from is sustainable. Some things to look for:
Made from high quality, sustainable materials
Often in smaller (local) stores rather than big box stores
Locally sourced, produced, and sold garments
Few, specific styles per collection, which are released twice or maximum three times per year.
Donate your lightly used clothes
Mail your gently used items to thredUp and they’ll sell them for you!
Once your items are sold you’ll receive a cut of the sale.
Shop consignment or second-hand
thredUp and Stage Stores are a great resource, both online and in-person
Every town has their own consignment and vintage shops...just ask around and you’ll get some great recommendations
